Communities now enjoying the benefits of Champion Training

To make it easier for more workplaces to be active, MSP developed its Champion Training programme in 2016, in collaboration with Active Partnerships and the British Heart Foundation. Following funding from Sport England as part of MSP’s Workplace Development Plan, we’ve now adapted this training for a community audience. The aim is to create a ripple effect, where community members are empowered as advocates for physical activity, arming them with techniques to inspire those around them to be more active too.

To-date 38 community members have been trained across organisations such as the Spider Project, Wirral Mencap, Happy Times Activities and Building Recovery in Communities on the Wirral.

One participant told us

“I’ve learnt the confidence to offer advice and encouragement to others to take-up and participate in physical activity”

Whilst another shared their personal pledge for how they’d be applying their training saying,

“I’m going to encourage my sister-in-law to get back on her feet after her back operation with some light stretches and movement, and possibly swimming too”

If you, or an organisation you know, would be interested in the Champion Training we’ll be happy to tell you more. Just get in touch with Danny Woodworth via d.woodworth@merseysidesport.com
