Sport has the power to change lives. Here in Liverpool City Region (LCR), it’s a central part of our identity – and now, it’s being used to create genuine employment pathways for those who need it most.
To mark Youth Employment Week, national sports apprenticeship charity Coach Core Foundation is launching its life-changing programmes in our region.
Liverpool has a vibrant youth population, but an estimated 15,000+ young people aged 16 to 24 in the city are currently not in education, employment, or training (NEET).
Coach Core tackles this inequality by connecting underrepresented young people with employers in the sports and physical activity sector.
Going beyond standard training, the charity provides comprehensive wraparound support. They help apprentices overcome everyday barriers – such as mental health challenges or a lack of formal qualifications – and enable them to access and sustain meaningful employment.
To make this programme a success in Liverpool City Region, Coach Core needs the support of local organisations.
The charity is actively seeking LCR-based employers to partner with them by offering apprenticeship placements.

Are you an employer in the sport and physical activity sector who wants to make a real difference?
If you share the belief that a sports apprenticeship can change the course of a young person’s life, Coach Core wants to hear from you.
